Award of Honour
The Constitution
of Bayelsa State Union of Great Britain and Ireland allows for the award of
honour to outstanding and credible individuals who have made substantial
contribution to the advancement and development of the union and/or of Bayelsa
state or of the Niger Delta. The relevant articles of the constitution is
indicated below.

18: Miscellaneous Provisions
Award of Honour
Fellow
(1) The Union may award the title of “FELLOW”
to outstanding individuals (whether or not he/she is from Bayelsa State) who have made substantial contribution towards the advancement, development or
reputation of the Union and/or of Bayelsa State or the Niger Delta. The award of Fellowship shall not be taken lightly, as only outstanding and
credible persons are granted the “Honour”. Fellows may use the title “FBSU”
after their names.
(2) The Executive Committee or any
member of the Union may recommend a person to be awarded the Honour. No member
of a serving Executive Committee of the Union may be awarded the Honour.
Implications of the Provisions above
It means that any member of the union may nominate
a person to the Awards Committee of the union. On the other hand, a member of
the public (who is a not a member of the union) may recommend an individual to
a member of the union who may then nominate that individual to the Awards
Committee.
In either case, a portfolio of evidence of
the individual’s contribution to the advancement, development or reputation of
the Union and/or of Bayelsa State is required. There will then be an
investigation to ascertain the validity of the evidence provided.
If the contribution is substantial enough and
the evidence is accepted, then the award of honour is made to that individual, who
will be issued a Certificate of Fellowship of Bayelsa State Union of Great
Britain and Ireland.
A Fellow is expected to continue to
contribute towards the advancement and development of the Union or Bayelsa
state or the Niger Delta.

Article 12:
Companion
(6) In certain special circumstances,
the Union may grant to certain individuals, the status of “Companion” of Bayelsa State Union of Great Britain and Ireland. Companions are individuals (whether or not
from Nigeria) who have made or are likely to make substantial contribution to
the Union or to Bayelsa State or to the Niger Delta.
(7) Companions are high caliber and
influential individuals who are appointed by invitation only. In exceptional
circumstances, an appointment by recommendation may be made. Companions may use
the title “CBSU” after their names.
